Whimsy in Antalya

I have been back home for about a month now and am still no way over this trip. From Cappadocia we headed to Antalya which was about 8 hours by bus give or take. After Cappadocia I was really skeptical if Antalya would be able to live up to the new expectations (Read about it here). But Antalya is so different from Cappadocia that there was no comparison. We were in Antalya for two and a half days but only saw a bit since one day out of two was wasted by getting seriously lost and then when we reached back to the main square we were very tired and had to take a bus to Izmir in the next couple of hours.

Some things to keep in mind:

  • I personally found Antalya to be cheaper than Cappadocia.
  • You definitely need to be more alert because of the trams
  • Do check out the hotels in old town. I loved them but since we were there only for two nights, it made no sense to change our hotel just for one night.
  • Be careful while understanding the maps. We had a great difficulty finding direction in Antalya.

Things to do in Antalya:

  • Visit the Hadrians Gate: If you are a sucker for architecture and all things with Roman history, do visit this place. I found nothing so amusing in it until I read about it on google. It’s all in the small details.

  • Ride the Telefrik: The view is surreal. From the top you can see the beach, water, mountains clouds and what not. It is a perfect picnic spot. Favourite thing to do here has to be eating ice creams and enjoying the view.

  • Evenings in Kaleiçi: This has to be my favourite place. Staying true to the name, this place has an old town charm to it I have spent hours here just walking (read getting lost) on the old cobbled streets. Grab a glass of juice or a bite to eat and that is a perfect evening.

  • Enjoy the glass elevator: So this is situated in the old town itself. Not difficult to find, the glass elevator is situated at the harbour. The view from the top gives a beautiful view of the new Antalya and the harbour. Really windy but really pretty.

  • Mesmerising Düden Waterfalls: Remember how I told you that we got lost and ended up losing an entire day? Yeah we were on our way to the waterfalls. I couldn’t visit this place but given what I have heard from the travellers as well as the locals, this is a must visit.

  • You must visit the beaches. Go to any beach. They are so clean and the water is so blue! Don’t get to enjoy that here in Mumbai. Would recommend to avoid weekends.

So that’s all for this post, hope you all enjoyed reading this!
