Ever wondered how most New Yorkers stay on a caffeine rush no matter what time of the day? How coffee has become such an important factor in their everyday life that a day without caffeine is unimaginable? After having spent a good amount of time in the city as a traveller I can say assuredly that New York has the most diverse variety of cafes and coffee shops. Something in store for everyone.

If you’re someone who enjoys brunches or breakfasts in the city, this post is not to be skipped. There is nothing better for me than starting my day at an outdoor cafe (if the weather permits) with some good food and great coffee. You might have seen some of these recommendations on my Instagram or Pinterest already but this post contains some new ones as well. New York being amongst the top coffee crazed city in the world has something for every palette. Be it a boujee floral latte or an everyday on the go Americano.

I have been following certain New York based content creators for a while. And one of the cafes I see them frequently visiting in Alula in Brooklyn. Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time in hand on my last trip to visit this place but from whatever I have read, this is a great spot to catch up with friends or enjoy a coffee by oneself.

Nestled in the streets of Brooklyn, Bakeri is a cute little spot in the borough serving great coffee and baked goods along with a retro aesthetic. Soak in the sweet fragrance of freshly baked breads mixed with the smell of a hot brew making it the perfect start to the day.

If you ever find yourself looking for a brunch spot that has great food, coffee and is laid back, Banter is your place. Serving comfort food in their brunch inspired menu, this cafe is usually full and they do not take a reservation. You can try your luck as though full, getting a table does not take long.

A family run business serving the finest gourmet coffee, espresso and pastries. Located in Manhattan, what sets them apart is the fact that even the smallest components to their dish are made in-house. Be it marshmallows in your hot chocolate or the syrup used in the macha jasmine latte. Do not miss their cream puffs!

Butler

Having multiple outlets across the boroughs, Butler serves some delicious coffee. Claiming to be the neighbourhood favourite serving up breakfast, lunch and everything in between, the long list of people who recommended this place to me seem to agree with this.

Cafe Kitsune

Prior to visiting NYC, I had no idea about Kitsune. It was a happy accident! This international chain has been praised by many and well all I can say is the afternoon I spent here was nothing short of perfect. Great coffee, tasty snacks and polite barista. It was all well tied with a bow.

Citizens

Out of their four outlets across the city, I have been to two Citizens and had a different yet wonderful experience at both. Having visited one during my trip to the states in 2019 (click here), spending an afternoon here felt comforting. No better way to spend a gloomy afternoon sitting in a cafe overlooking the streets.

Fabrique Bakery

The first word that come to mind when I think of Fabrique is “CARB HEAVEN!” With rows and rows of artisanal pastries and sourdough breads Fabrique offers perfect coffee accompaniment to be enjoyed at the store or as a takeaway. If you have the time, spend an hour sipping coffee and munching bread here chatting away.

Joe Coffee Company

Joe coffee is the perfect corner coffee shop in the city. Started in 2003, it has now expanded to 23 cafes in New York and a roastery in Long Island. If you ever find yourself near Gay Street in West Village (click here), be sure to stop by and try a fresh cup of Joe.

Maman

One of the most frequent names to pop up when thinking of cafes in the city is Maman. With multiple stores across the city, Maman is a good spot when you just want to enjoy a good cup of coffee with a sweet treat by oneself. And please do try the macadamia cookie. It is one of the best I’ve had!

Remi Flower & Coffee

Located on the 2nd Avenue, Remi is one of its kind. Their concept is something totally unique to me and have not come across something like this ever. Remi is a flower shop, where one can buy cut flowers, plants but also coffee! I was attracted to this idea and am glad I tried this place out. The lavender latte here was really delicious and something I would recommend anyone visiting NYC.

Starbucks Reserve

Next to Chelsea Market, a prime attraction for all coffee lovers is the Starbucks Reserve. Setting it different from all other Starbucks outlet is the small lot beans which are brewed by baristas which are available for a limited time period. If you ever find yourself at one, do try their cocktail menu which seems to be a crowd pleaser.

Stumptown Coffee Roasters

Stumptown was the first cafe I ever fell in love with. Visited it for the first time back in 2019 (click here) and there has been no looking back since then. If you like savouring your coffee and enjoying every sip instead of mindlessly chugging it away then do stop by for a sweet experience.

Sweet Moment

Claiming to have the most memorable desserts, this place is truly sweet. Situated in Little Italy, with the cutest creamart drinks and delectable macaroons, Sweet Moment is definitely worth the visit. Their matcha creamart was absolutely perfect and the red velvet creamart was to die for!

Urban Backyard

A comparatively new addition to the New York cafe culture, Urban Backyard has definitely made its mark in the community. A quaint little shop on the busy streets of Manhattan, it is a perfect pick me up spot with coffees and teas for every mood and a pretty distinctive selection of food.

Thats all for this post! Happy drinking!
