How to get the perfect instagram shot

So with October coming to an end, and the weather becoming slightly more bare-able in the city (only during the evenings though), I really have no clue where the time flew. I mean I am still taking time to digest the fact that it is October! Now I know I say this in almost every other post, but I have exams coming up in like 10 days and I still have a heap of notes to go through. I really don’t know if I will be able to complete all of that in time. Managing my studies with blog and social life is tough. Not that I am complaining but I really don’t know how some people do it so effortlessly.

If you follow me on Instagram, you’d know, how much I love that platform. I always try to put in some serious effort into each picture and not post until I am satisfied. (and trust me I am not really the most easy person to please.) People think, it is the camera that makes all the difference. But I think it is completely nonsense. Yes, camera is important, but all of us use smartphones which have pretty good camera. There is more to an image quality than the camera equipment. So I thought I will share my 5 tricks or things I keep in mind while clicking a perfect Instagram worthy picture. Just keep in mind, these are some of the tips that I used in the past and have worked for me.

  • Lighting: This is the most important, I cannot stress the importance of the correct light. Personally, I always prefer natural light over artificial. If I am not mistaken, I have only used artificial light a couple of times, and to be very honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the outcome. I generally shoot when the sun isn’t harsh i.e. three hours after sunrise and before sunset.
  • Space-ing & Assembling: Balancing the negative space in every picture makes sure it does not look cramped up or like too much going on. I keep my props parallel to each other, but you can definitely play around, see what looks good what pleases your eyes!
  • Be clear on the story: The purpose of a post is to share a story. Every picture has one. Make your picture speak. Choose the hero. Highlight the important thing you wanna show to convey.

  • Props: I used to underestimate the use and work of props. I was so wrong. Props add that extra bit of character to your image. A prop can fill the emptiness your image misses (literally) But not only that, it also brings a slight change of angle or adds some extra information to the image.

For example: Keeping your bag next to your lunch, or probably using your hand to add more to the composition.

  • Editing: This is the most crucial. It is like the grand finale. Editing can either make or break your picture. But to be honest, it is very simple. I use the basic Instagram edits and nothing else. Filters aren’t my thing so I always stick to adjusting the brightness, contrast, highlight, sharpen and if my image has too much warmth, then either adjust the warmth or add a blue toned shadow.

So that is all the things which can definitely help to improve the quality of your content.
