Makeup mistakes everyone should avoid

Throughout my teens, I have been the girl with creased concealer, too much powder on face or the one with weird nose lines. And I honestly wish I had somebody to share these tips with me back then which would’ve saved me a ton of awkward conversations with girls coming unto me to warn about the mess happening on my face (in a good manner) and guys wondering what the heck is that face.

“Take the weather of the place you live in and your skin type into consideration”

To me, makeup is something that helps me elevate my confidence and feel better about myself. I do enjoy those no makeup days but since the lockdown, I have actually started reading more about as well as understanding how there are so many myths surrounding it. There are a few things that I have learnt from my mistakes and thought I’d share them here!

Using more than needed: This is a very well known thing but it blows my mind to see how many people still use excessive quantity of products. A drop of concealer is more than enough for your undereye and a pump or two of foundation can cover your face and neck. If you still aren’t satisfied with the coverage you can build it up, provided the products you use have that property.

Not prepping your face: Never apply makeup before prepping your face. Prepping means the basic exfoliating and cleansing followed by your skin care routine which helps ensure that you have a smooth canvas before you begin. If you start without cleansing, the end result will not look natural but will look dull.

Skipping setting spray: Setting spray is like that final touch of pixie dust. It takes away all the cakey-ness and the powder-ness from your face. I just dab my face with a damp sponge after applying a setting spray to lock everything in perfectly.

Dragging your applicator: Many people drag their buffing brush/ beauty blender across their face to blend in the makeup. Don’t do that. That only moves your product. To blend it, dab it light handedly. This ensures that the product stays on for a longer period of time.

Following recommendations blindly: There are about a million different products in the market. Before finalizing on one, take the weather of the place you live in, your skin type and your expectations from the product into consideration. Don’t just buy a product because it worked out well for your friend or someone.
