How to Stick to your Resolutions

Research shows that most New Year resolutions are broken by the end of January or the start of February. We begin every year by promising something to ourselves or setting goals for what we want to accomplish by the end of the year. But how many of us actually manage to achieve them? I know it feels setting those goals is easier than actually working on them. But that is not true.  Your goal can be as small as keeping your closet clean to something as big as a moving to some other country. I have a few tricks up my sleeve that help me achieve my resolution which I have stated below:

Weekly/Monthly Goals: Instead of setting a yearlong goal, for example ‘I want to lose 15 kgs this year’, try setting monthly goals like ‘I want to lose 2 kgs by the end of January’. When you see yourself achieving those small goals it motivates you and keeps you on track.

Baby Steps: Start small. If you plan to learn something new like yoga, don’t just join a class and start 5 times a week. This is something new for your body. Baby Steps. Start with twice a week. Then move onto 4 times and so on. You don’t want to do anything that will put your body in some shock. This a lifestyle change. Give yourself time to adapt.

Rewards/ Incentives: For every weekly goal you achieve treat yourself. Because honestly no one else will. Treating yourself does not always mean spending a lot of money, or doing something that contradicts your goal. It can be a small gesture or thing that makes you happy. Meeting your girlfriends for lunch, going for a movie you have been waiting to watch or spending some quality time with yourself!

Maintaining Balance: This is more like a continuation from the last point. Keep your goal in balance with your lifestyle. If you would have to compromise either one of the all time your resolution would break in a jiffy. You need to set your goal keeping your lifestyle in mind. Don’t set a goal to learn 4 new skills if your work/education does not permit you the time.

So that is all for this post, hope you find it helpful!
