How I deal with anxiety

If you follow me on instagram you’d know I have been traveling for the past couple of weeks all over America. I am basically here visiting my sister and taking a small break from my life (well I’m still sitting here and completing assignments and creating content and preparing for upcoming exams so the jokes on me) but its all good as long as I get to explore new cities and cultures.

“Think back to the core reason that makes me panic and then find solution to that.”

Did you know this is the Mental Health Awareness Week? I came to know about it through ZoeSugg’s instagram page and all I could think about was how many people in India aren’t aware of it. For about a year, I have been getting some major anxiety and panic attacks which has actually made me realize the importance of mental health. Below listed are some exercise or things that help me deal with these attacks:

*Disclaimer: I am no professional or a licensed therapist. What I share here are my personal opinions and exercises that have been working well for me.

  • Understand the root cause: I have no idea whether one should do this or not but this thing has always worked for me. I think back to the core reason that makes me panic and then find solution to that. For example, if talking to someone makes me anxious, I think about the possible reason behind it. Maybe I feel intimidated or maybe I’m scared of the way they get angry on small things or maybe I feel they don’t like me. It can be anything. Just find the reason and then work on it.
  • Talk to someone: This someone may not necessarily be a therapist or anyone professional. Talk to your boyfriend or your best friend or anyone in your family that you’re comfortable with. I idea is to get it all out as it helps in understanding your own self and thoughts.

  • Say ‘no’: Always remember nobody and I mean nobody is worth your mental peace. Eustress is good for your health and progress but the second it turns into distress it is harmful. You need to make yourself strong enough to say ‘no’. To stand up for yourself. To be respected. Nobody can do those things for you. Find the fire within yourself. It’s there.
  • Take a break: I do not mean change your name and flea the country. I mean you can do that if you feel like but what I am trying to say is go for a walk. Or maybe listen to some music or podcast. Do any activity that you enjoy. It can be cooking, jogging, swimming, editing or anything. Just stay away from internet. That is not a break.

I really hope you find this helpful.
