Whimsy In Jaipur

A picture of me outside Patrika Gate, a landmark in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

It’s been a while since I travelled last but right before the virus hit the world I did go on a short trip to Jaipur and Udaipur. Little did we know what the months forward held. Not going to lie, I have been holding myself back from posting this article for a while now but since travel is beginning to resume and people are getting used to the ‘new normal’, it made sense.

Now, I have visited both of these cities before as well but this was my first time vacationing in Jaipur so I decided to record my experience. As for Udaipur, you can check that post out here. For this post, sharing below some of my most enjoyed things to do in Jaipur!

“Jaipur city holds a royal experience that one has to experience first hand”

Since we were in the city only for a couple of days, staying somewhere central was ideal as there are cabs, buses and rickshaws available everywhere. I have listed the steps to choose the right AirBnB for yourself here

Admiring the intricate detailing at Patrika Gate: The minute you search ‘Jaipur’ on Pinterest, you’ll be flooded by the images of this place. Believed to be one of the most photographed spots in India, this place will leave you in awe of its intricate details.

Emptying pockets at Baapu Bazaar: This colorful market has a lot to offer. Spending the evenings street shopping while finding the perfect souvenir and stuffing your face with pyaaz ki kachori (deep fried bread filled with caramelized onion) should be a must on every persons list.

Exploring the City Palace: The City Palace is huge and a very well known tourist attraction among the city for all the right reasons. From the stories behind each door to the panoramic view blue room, this place is a must visit.

Sipping on coffee with the view of Hawa Mahal: Imagine sitting at a rooftop cafe, sipping some coffee while the sunsets as a backdrop to this beautiful landmark. The Tattoo Cafe &  Lounge offers the perfect view of the place and has some decent food to offer. You can buy a pass and visit the mahal too.

Attention to details at Amer fort, Rajasthan

Visiting the Amer Fort: This is a little outside the city, but if you are a history buff or even into architecture, do not miss this place!! I repeat! Do. Not. Miss. This. Place. From the attention to details, to the armor to the blue room, this place is definitely worth a visit. I would highly recommend hiring a tour guide which are not heavy on the pocket and make the entire experience smooth as it is very easy to get lost in there.

Since I was there only for a day and half, this are my recommendations but do check out the Panna-Meena ka Kund, Cafe Palladio and the Jantar Mantar observatory if you there for longer.
