Must watch Female Centric movies

Am I the only one who is having a hard time believing that it’s September already? I mean this year has been the weirdest one hands down. The last sentence in no way was meant as a challenge to the universe. If I were asked a few couple months ago where did I see myself in September my answer would be been completely different!

“I will see every last drop of blood in my veins until this monster called slavery is dead.”- Harriet, 2019.

But with all that being said and done, I am really enjoying this time with myself. Turns out I am a great company! Jokes apart, I hope you all are doing well and are safe. With the current situation and the rise in number of cases, we all are advised to stay indoors. Which means, the options for entertainment are limited. I would be lying if I said I have a long list of movies I have to watch. No. the list has dwindled in the past months. But I do have a short list of the top female centric movies that I plan to watch in the upcoming days and thought would share the same!

Harriet (2019): After fleeing the Maryland farm where she spent her life enslaved, she changed the course of history by joining the abolitionist movement and making the perilous journey back to the plantation. Her courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. Hidden Figures (2016):Based on a non-fiction book with the same title, Hidden Figures is the story of three African- American mathematicians who worked at NASA. This isn’t a film about the man who made it to the moon, it’s about the brilliant black women who helped get him there in the first place. Watch trailer here.

In a world (2013): Did you ever notice that most of these announcements are made by men? This is a hilarious romantic comedy about a struggling vocal coach who strikes it big in the cutthroat world of movie-trailer voiceovers, only to find herself in direct competition with the industry’s reigning king-her father. Little Woman (2019): Drawn on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, Little Woman revolves around the lives of four sisters, each determined to live life on her own terms — is both timeless and timely. Living life on their own terms, believing in oneself and following their ambitions, this movie is definitely worth a watch! P.S. Jo March is hands down one of the most powerful character I have ever come across. Watch trailer here.

Mulan (2020): Set in the times where the work of woman was only to keep her man happy and do household chores, Hua Mulan sets out to fight against the army invading China disguised as a man. It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation…and a proud father. Watch trailer here.

Queen of Katwe (2016): Disney’s Queen of Katwe is based on the true story of Phiona Mutesi, who plays like a girl and owns it. Living in the slums of Uganda with her single mother and siblings, this 10-year-old falls in love with chess and despite all the troubles life has to offer makes her way to being International Chess Champion! Truly inspiring.
